The Importance of Personal Coaching in Mid Career Growth

During the initial years of my career as a banking professional, I experienced rapid growth and gained significant recognition within my organisation. My hard work and dedication were paying off, and I was climbing the career ladder quickly. I had been posted to different parts of the country in various roles, which gave me diverse exposure to different areas of banking and finance. However, when I was transferred to Mumbai, everything changed. I unknowingly fell into the trap of my comfort zone. Under the guise of prioritising family time, I started taking things for granted. I became casual, not only at home but also physically in the office. My performance and productivity began to suffer, yet the most troubling part was that I remained unaware of the downward spiral I was in.

Looking back, I realize that my life was going against me in subtle ways, but I had blinded myself to these signs. This phase taught me the harsh truth about how easily complacency can creep in, even when you’re doing well in your career. But one day, my organization enrolled me in a professional development program, assigning me a personal coach Mr Ram Subramaniam. Initially, I wasn’t serious about coaching, mentoring, or guidance. During the first few sessions, I attended out of duty, without truly engaging. But one day, my Ram Sir gave me a task called the “Wheel of Life.” That exercise became a pivotal moment in my journey. The exercise forced me to rethink various aspects of my life such as career relationships health personal growth and others. It pushed me to reflect on my own priorities.

How My Life Completely Changed After Completing One Year of Personal Coaching

After completing one year of personal coaching, my life underwent a profound transformation. The impact of having a personal coach far exceeded my initial expectations, and looking back, I realize how much has shifted—both externally in my actions and internally in my mindset.

1. A Shift from Routine to Purpose

Before my coaching journey, I was living day-to-day without a clear direction. The idea of a “balanced life” had lulled me into a comfort zone where I was content but not growing. After completing the coaching sessions, I experienced a dramatic shift. I now live with a strong sense of purpose. My days are no longer about simply getting through the hours; they are now aligned with larger goals that I am passionate about achieving. This sense of purpose gives me motivation and energy that I hadn’t felt before.

2. Breaking Free from the Comfort Zone

One of the most significant changes was breaking free from the comfort zone that had held me back for years. My coach helped me realise that I had been avoiding challenges, staying safe in familiar routines. Through consistent encouragement and accountability, I started tackling things that once intimidated me. Now, instead of shying away from difficult tasks, I actively seek opportunities to stretch my abilities. This change has opened up new avenues in both my personal and professional life that I never thought possible before.

3. Structured Goal-Setting and Execution

The structured approach I adopted during the coaching sessions became a game-changer. By setting specific goals for 10 years, 5 years, 1 year, and even daily tasks, I now operate with clarity and focus. Each goal has actionable steps, and I’ve developed a habit of regularly reviewing my progress. This has made me more productive and disciplined than ever. The goals that once felt distant and overwhelming now feel achievable, as I work on them methodically, day by day.

4. Increased Confidence and Self-Belief

A year ago, I wasn’t confident in my abilities to make real progress or achieve the ambitious goals I had set. My personal coach played a crucial role in helping me see my potential, which has led to a surge in self-confidence. Every time I accomplished even a small milestone, it reinforced my belief in my ability to succeed. Today, I approach challenges with the mindset that I can overcome them, no matter how big they seem. This confidence has spilled over into every aspect of my life, from my career to personal relationships.

5. Enhanced Time Management and Productivity: Prior to coaching, I often found myself procrastinating or spending time on tasks that didn’t move me closer to my goals. Now, my approach to time has completely transformed. I’ve developed strong time management skills, using tools and techniques introduced by my coach to prioritize tasks, break them down into manageable chunks, and stay focused. As a result, I’m achieving more in less time and feel a greater sense of accomplishment at the end of each day.

6. Rewriting the Definition of Balance

My old understanding of a “balanced life” meant staying comfortable, avoiding stress, and not pushing myself too hard. However, this year of coaching has completely changed my perspective on balance. Now, balance means integrating personal growth, professional ambition, and personal fulfillment. Instead of staying in a static state of equilibrium, I now embrace a dynamic balance where I push myself to grow while also taking time to recharge. I have learned how to sustain a lifestyle that allows for continuous progress without burning out.

7. A Renewed Passion for the Future

Finally, one of the most powerful changes has been the way I view the future. What once seemed like a vague, distant landscape has now become a bright and exciting vision. Thanks to the goal-setting framework and the personal development I’ve experienced, I feel empowered to actively shape my future. I’m not just waiting for things to happen; I’m making them happen. This sense of ownership over my life’s direction has given me renewed passion, and I’m genuinely excited about what the next 5 or 10 years will bring.

Final Thoughts:

Completing one year of personal coaching has been nothing short of transformative. From breaking free of the comfort zone to mastering goal-setting and time management, the changes have impacted every part of my life. I’m no longer living passively or out of routine – I’m living with intention, confidence, and a clear vision for the future. The lessons I’ve learned in this year are not just temporary fixes but lifelong skills that will continue to propel me forward. I am grateful for this journey, and as I look back on the past year, I see a completely different person than I was when I began.

Every Organization Has a Banarakas

In the fourth season of the show Panchayat, a surprising yet insightful leadership moment unfolds, Pradhan Ji, a grounded and efficient village head, loses the local election. He had everything a good leader should: integrity, dedication, and visible results. Yet he is defeated by Banarakas, a man who built his entire campaign on mockery, accusations, and theatrical disruption. The defeat wasn’t just political, it was a reflection of what happens when a leader loses focus and gets pulled into the irrelevant debate. Management Lessons From Panchayat  Banarakas was not a real competitor until he was made into one. His strength didn’t lie in strategy, governance, or public service — it lay in provocation. The moment Pradhan Ji’s team responded him and Manju Devi publicly argued with Kranti Devi, Banarakas became more than background noise. He became the narrative. Not because he earned it, but because he was handed the mic. Banrakas in every Organisation  This isn’t just the st...

Surprise Element Sri Krishna’s Doctrine

“जैसा दिख रहा है, वैसा हो नहीं रहा — और जो होगा, उसकी भनक तक नहीं लगेगी।” This statement is not just the essence of Lord Krishna’s diplomacy, but today it also mirrors India’s modern strategic mindset. History testifies that the most decisive battles are often fought in silence — and sometimes, the greatest victory lies in a step that appears, outwardly, to be a withdrawal. When King Jarasandh of Magadh repeatedly attacked Mathura, exhausting its defenses and threatening the Yadava clan’s survival, Lord Krishna took an unexpected decision — he left Mathura and built the city of Dwarka deep in the sea. This wasn’t cowardice; it was foresight. It wasn’t an escape from battle, but a strategic move to avoid one and secure victories in many. That is why he came to be known as Ranchhod (the one who leaves the battlefield), yet he ultimately returned with Bhima to defeat Jarasandh. The most critical component of this strategy was the Surprise Element — the unpredictable path that ensured s...

Redefining Success for a Balanced Life

Work 7x24, Not 24x7:  In today’s fast-paced professional world, a disturbing trend is emerging: the race for success is turning into a relentless grind. Many young professionals under 40 are succumbing to severe stress, heart ailments, and burnout. The constant demand to be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week is taking a toll on their physical and mental health. As technology blurs the boundaries between work and personal time, it’s easy to get trapped in a cycle of endless tasks, meetings, and deadlines, leaving no room for relaxation or family time.  Earlier the workday was clearly defined: reaching the office at 9 AM and leaving by 5 PM. Those were structured hours, and when the day ended, it truly ended. You went home, spent time with family, and recharged for the next day.  But as technology evolved, the concept of boundaries dissolved. Laptops meant that 5 PM became 9 PM. You would spend a few extra hours at home catching up on emails or completing unfinished ta...
